[11th NPT Review Conference] NGO Presentation by Korean A-bomb Victims and SPARK
On May 1, a civil society presentation was held at the United Nations Headquarters with the participation of all States Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), including nuclear-weapon states.
During the session, Jin-tae Shim, Head of the Hapcheon Branch of the Korean Atomic Bomb Victims Association, informed the international community about the lived realities of Korean A-bomb victims. He called for an apology and compensation from the responsible states and introduced ongoing efforts to hold the Seoul International People’s Tribunal on Atomic Bombings. [Read Full Statement]

A statement was also delivered by SPARK under the theme: “Let’s achieve denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula by abolishing extended deterrence and concluding a Korean Peninsula Peace Agreement and a DPRK–U.S. Non-Aggression Treaty, and move toward a Nuclear-Free World!” The statement emphasized the importance of the International People’s Tribunal as part of efforts to achieve a nuclear-free world.
